BJ's Place gives 10 older homeless men a safe, comfortable place to spend the night, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Description:
BJ's Place is sponsored by the Community Church of New York (Unitarian Universalist), as part of the shelter system created by the Partnership for the Homeless. We are staffed entirely by volunteers, and are located in Murray Hill, in Mid-town Manhattan. Our guests are screened by the Partnership for the Homeless for health, cleanliness and sobriety, and stay in a 10-bed dormitory. Two volunteers stay each night in a separate bedroom, with their own bathroom & shower.
History:
BJ's Place was one of the first shelters opened in response to a "temporary" homelessness crisis over 23 years ago. We've been in operation ever since, and have occupied our own designated space in a brownstone in Murray Hill.
