Neighbors Together is committed to ending hunger and poverty in the Ocean Hill/Brownsville/Bedford-Stuyvesant community, one of the lowest income areas in Brooklyn and New York City.
Description:
Neighbors Together provides free hot, nutritious meals to 300 people every day. We also provide advocacy, referral, case management and informal support and counseling to our clients who eat here. We are located in one of the poorest neighborhoods in New York City, and our clients are often struggling with poverty, homelessness, illness, mental illness, substance abuse, and hunger.
History:
Neighbors Together was founded in 1982 by a group of Catholic nuns and community members who wanted to alleviate the causes and effects of the poverty in their neighborhood. Neighbors Together has operated out of a firm belief in the potential of each individual to become a vital member of the community, no matter how desperate their circumstances. We recently moved into a beautiful new space that is larger and brighter and has allowed us to expand our services.
