New York Community Development for Youth is a non-profit organization that has been created to fight and prevent; youth violence, child obesity, teen pregnancies and to support academic development. Our children deserve better opportunities for the future, and NYCDY wants to provide the tools for success.
We want to create a space where sports and the arts join together to foster an environment of learning and stimulation of teamwork.

Description:
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” There are three serious problems faced by today’s youth in Queens, New York: the growth of gangs, child obesity and teenage pregnancy. First, there has been a significant rise in gang-related activity amongst teens in Queens County, New York stemming from unstable family backgrounds and a lack of outlets for working off frustrations and stimulating creative energies. Second, obesity is on the rise nationwide and New York is no exception, with over 28% of high school students already overweight or at risk. Finally, New York ranks 14th in the nation in terms of teen pregnancy with rates in New York City ranking much higher than the rest of the state. NY Community Development for Youth (NYCDY) proposes to attack these problems by creating a space where soccer and the arts join together to foster an environment of learning, team spirit and high self-esteem.

History:
