Parents As Primary Teachers, Inc. provides training and support for parents and caregivers that are homeschooling or complementing the conventional classroom education of their children.

Description:
Among other services, Parents As Primary Teachers, Inc. (PAPT)offers high quality, entertaining, arts education programs that involve children and parents/caregivers in developing a talent/skill while making connections to other academic subject areas as they relate to the focal theme of the program. Parents/caregivers are provided with training and practical, standards-based curriculum guides to extend the fun, learning experiences beyond the program time.

History:
During our Shake, Rattle & Roll program, a professional percussionist teaches children of all ages (including toddlers) and their parents/caregivers how to play a variety of world percussion instruments. Families also enjoy activities that tie their interest in music to other curriculum standards. This program will be offered again in fall 2007.

During our Eight Million Stories program, professional storytellers and filmmakers guide the children and parents/caregivers through the development of global and original short story films. Families also enjoy activities that tie their interest in storytelling and filmmaking to other curriculum standards. This program will be offered spring 2008.

Our Safe Play Olympics program was recognized with a NYS Resolution by Senator Velmanette Montgomery for successfully involving parent volunteers in promoting good sportsmanship and limiting injurious incidents during the recess periods at the Bedford Village School in 2003. We will be offering this program again in summer 2008 to parents/caregivers and children that are either homeschooling or attending conventional schools.
