The non-profit S.S. Columbia Project (SSCP) has acquired the National Historic Landmark steamship S.S. Columbia for restoration and operation as a means of revitalizing the communities of the Hudson Valley through responsible heritage tourism. The operating S.S. Columbia will restore an historic transportation link between New York City and the Hudson Valley by carrying students and tourists up the Hudson River on day trips, allowing them to enjoy the cultural, natural, and historically important resources of the region. The vessel will serve as a floating mobile museum and cultural events venue.

Description:
Restoring the National Historic Landmark steam vessel S.S Columbia for service on the Hudson River and reviving historic waterborne transportation links between communities in the Hudson Valley.
Educating the Public: Creating a floating mobile museum illuminating the rich cultural, environmental, and economic heritage of the Hudson Valley and its waterfront communities.
Creating Jobs through sustainable Economic Development, Waterfront Revitalization, and responsible heritage and environmental tourism.
Protecting our Environment by raising awareness of the natural landscape and environment of the Hudson Valley: its beautiful mountains, rivers, wildlife, and wetlands.
