Founded in September 1999, StreetSquash is an after-school youth enrichment program that combines academic tutoring with squash instruction, community service, and one-on-one mentoring. Working with 140 boys and girls from Harlem, ages 12 - 17, for a six-year period, the program's goals are: to improve academic performance; to develop an ethic of hard work and commitment; to boost self-confidence; to increase school attendance. Overall, the StreetSquash mission is to provide consistent and reliable support to the children, families and schools in Harlem. By exposing these children to a variety of new experiences and by maintaining high standards, StreetSquash aims to help each child realize his or her academic and personal potential.
