Since its creation in 1998, The New York City Police Museum has preserved the rich history of the New York City Police Department. The Museum’s programs and exhibits demonstrate how the histories of the New York Police Department and New York City are intertwined, and how the New York Police Department has changed along with the City itself.
Description:
The Museum honors all New York Police Department men and women who have served in the most prestigious Police Department in the world and the special place they occupy in New York City’s history. The museum exhibits hundreds of artifacts, several police vehicles, police tools of the trade, weapons, badges and uniforms. Numerous plasma screens depict many aspects of police work. There is an exceptional video on 9/11.
History:
The museum occupy a Landmark Building at 100 Old Slip. This building was formally Precinct #1 and was built in 1909. In 1993 Precinct #1 moved and the building was occupied by the NYC Landmark Preservation Commission. In 2001 the NYC Police Museum moved from lower Broadway to its new location at 100 Old Slip.
