As our culture becomes progressively more saturated with media messages and images, our goal is to educate youth about the power and influence of media and its effects on our perceptions and behavior. Project SET is a nonprofit media arts organization designed to give New York City's most under-served youth the opportunity to take part in major film and television productions while learning to be critical media consumers.

Description:
Project SET runs two programs:

The Me in Me:dia
Project SET’s 10-week interdisciplinary program allows high school students to critically examine the role media plays in their lives, create PSAs to address community issues, and connect with media professionals. Through Saturday and after-school workshops, panel discussions, on-set experiences, and connections with guest speakers and mentors, youth receive the tools necessary to analyze their media intake and take part in the ‘behind the scenes’ of the media industry.

The World Through Our Lens Initiative
The World Through Our Lens Initiative is a series of programs that allows students to address global issues through the use of media and service learning projects.

History:
Since September 2006, Project SET has educated 22 young people from Brooklyn’s Frederick Douglas Academy VII public high school.

Project SET has partnered with many companies and organizations to serve the youth participants, including New Line Cinema, MTV and VH1.
