The Korean American League for Civic Action, Inc. is a nonprofit, nonpartisan community advocacy and education organization engineering in encouraging members of the Korean American and the Asian American community to become more involve in civic participation, which is an integral part of American democracy, through leadership, education and advocacy programs in the Tri-State Metropolitan area. KALCA has various programs where college students can participate in the civic process, including the 2008 College Internship Program, Get-Out-the Vote Campaign, and Volunteer Work.

Description:
The Korean American League for Civic Action, Inc. is now accepting applications for the 2008 College Internship Program. Entering in its eighth year, the College Internship Program is a unique opportunity for college students and recent graduates of Asian Pacific American descent who will demonstrate leadership potential to gain practical hands-on exposure to government, politics and nonprofit advocacy.

The College Internship Program is an intensive, eight-week program that places interns in leading government offices, non-profit organizations, and political campaigns. In addition to full-time assignments, interns participate in individualized leadership development courses, meet government and civic leaders, explore community and cultural issues, and seek career advice from professionals in a wide range of public service professions, including government, law, business, journalism, non-profit management and politics. All interns will receive a stipend of $3,500 for participating in the program.

History:
KALCA was founded in June 2000 by three public-minded citizens who decided to take action toward improving the low rates of civic participation in the Korean American and Asian Pacific American communities.

Based on the premise that an engaged electorate could improve civil society and America’s democracy, KALCA provides leadership training and civic education through our Internship Program, Educational Programs, Leadership Development Program, and Voter Education & Mobilization Project.

KALCA works to build relationships with other Korean American, Asian American and ethnic minority organizations, strengthening partnerships inside and outside of the Korean American community.
