The Hyde Leadership Charter School (HLCS) opened its doors in the South Bronx in September of 2006 based on the principles of education, character and family that guide the other four Hyde schools. The first Hyde School was founded in 1966 in Bath, Maine with the mission of developing children into responsible, ethical, educated and successful human beings. Hyde Bronx continues that tradition in a charter school setting in an under-served area of New York City.
Description:
HLCS is a public charter school, located in Hunts Point, Bronx. Currently we have students in Kindergarten, first grade, sixth grade and seventh grade. When fully operational, the school will teach children from K - 12.
History:
HLCS opened in Sept of 2006 with grades K and 6. Those children were promoted, and we now teach four grades. Although the children entered with poor achievement, we have been successful in bringing their scores closer to grade level.
