The Cornelia Connelly Center seeks to motivate under-served girls to develop their potential as individuals and contributors to the community. In the Middle School, small classes and individual attention encourage and support learning in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. Students are encouraged to do their part to bring about a more just society, and the Center enables them to do so by creating an environment in which good habits of heart, mind and work are formed.
History:
The Cornelia Connelly Center has provided quality education in a safe haven for girls and young women of the Lower East Side of New York City since 1993. Named in honor of an innovative 19th Century educator, the Center was formed as a result of the growing realization by educators that academic and social needs of girls, especially Latinas, were not being met.
