Legros Cultural Arts, Inc. (LCA) advances youth interest in culture diversity. We recruit children and young adults from various ethnic groups for meaningful cultural arts activities, which our participants display for the public.
Description:
LCA creates activities in dance, drama, music, art and film that diminish the risk of racially charged violence by introducing cultural differences during early childhood and young adulthood learning. By integrating our youth through culturally influenced activities we inspire understanding and acceptance. Our efforts also expose and nurture emerging young artists while we educate communities about the many cultures existing within and outside the United States of America.
History:
Legros Cultural Arts, Inc. (LCA), founder Chantal Legros formed Legros Creative Arts Academy (LCAA), in Miami, Florida, under the umbrella of the Haitian Organization of Women in 1989. LCAA, then a dance studio dedicated to promoting multi-culturalism through dance, for ages five to adulthood; established their independence 1993. LCAA went on to launch Danzare Internationale a touring dance company. Before long, LCAA and Danzare Int’l extended its community outreach to include contractual relationships with Metro Dade County schools, the Community Crusade Against Drugs and Mal-Jonal Productions, providing dance performances for over 30,000 students. In 1998, LCAA relocated to Queens, New York to revise their outreach approach. Today, the studio has been transformed into a cultural arts program that engages children and young adults of varied ethnic backgrounds in dance, drama, music and film activities.
