The After-School Corporation is a nonprofit organization which supports comprehensive after-school programs in New York City, with the goal of enhancing the quality, availability and sustainability of programs in New York and the nation.

At TASC, we believe it is essential for all kids to have safe places to go every day where they can discover and develop every part of themselves, while their parents work or go to school. We believe all kids should have the after-school opportunities that are standard in the lives of higher income families.

Description:
TASC programs provide kids with academic support and creative ways to reinforce and expand on what they learn during the school day. But we also believe that all kids, as young as kindergarten and as old as high school, should move their bodies, delve into art and music and experience the excitement of mastering new skills and giving back to their communities.

TASC is an intermediary organization, which means we connect schools, community groups and after-school providers with policymakers, and funders. We advocate for after-school programs to be publicly funded, and work relentlessly toward enhancing the effectiveness and benefits of after-school.

History:
Since 1998, TASC has helped more than 250,000 children discover and develop their potential through high quality, engaging after-school programs. The first nonprofit organization in the nation which set out to build a citywide K-12 after-school system, TASC has helped to transform the way after-school is delivered and funded in New York City, the state and the nation.

When TASC was launched in 1998 with a challenge grant from The Open Society Institute, after-school programs were typically small, isolated, variable in quality and often inconveniently scheduled for working parents. Just 10,000 of the 1.1 million K-12 children in New York City public schools had access to publicly funded daily programs, compared to 140,000 today.

TASC began with the goal of creating a critical mass of quality after-school programs with demonstrable benefits, operating every day until 6 PM inside public schools.
