Achilles is a worldwide organization, represented in sixty countries.
Our mission is to enable people with
all types of disabilities to participate in mainstream athletics, to promote personal achievement, enhanced self esteem, and the lowering of barriers between people.

Description:
Achilles helps men, women and children of all disabilities, backgrounds, cultures, and countries find their inner strength to participate and compete in mainstream athletic events (in particular Marathons)by assisting them in their physical training as well as through emotional encouragement. Our members/athletes that participate in the Achilles Programs range from our Achilles Kids program, our Achilles members from every walk of life, and the men and women of our Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans who have suffered severe injuries while in active duty.

History:
Achilles has a very active membership and volunteer program. We have a NYC Chapter that meets for bi-weekly training sessions in Central Park for workouts, they train and participate in triathlons, tandem-bike experiences and other social activities. We have our upcoming 6th Annual Achilles Hope & Possibility 5 mile Race in Central Park on June 22nd. And we have over 300 athletes plus their volunteer guides participate through Achilles in the NYC Marathon. We help facilitate opportunities for our athletes in Marathons across the country (Miami, LA, Boston, Marine Corp., and many others) as well as Internationally (Moscow Marathon, Hungry, and the upcoming Krakow Marathon. We have numerous programs: the Achilles Kids Program, the Achilles Program for adults of all backgrounds, nationalities and disabilities, and our Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.
