Mind The Gap Theatre produces and promotes new British plays in NYC and fosters and exchange of new plays between the US and UK.
Description:
Mind The Gap Theatre is home to the best new British drama in New York City. With our dedicated and talented acting company, The Anglo-American Repertory, our goal is to build a theatrical bridge between NY and the UK.
Mind The Gap's productions, readings and British-themed events are attracting the Expats and Anglophiles in NYC as well as gaining the attention of some of the most high profiled companies and theatre artists working in the UK today.
History:
The brainchild of Paula D’Alessandris, Mind The Gap (MTG) was conceived in 1998 to import edgy British productions, readings and workshops to welcoming New York audiences and, in return, export some of America’s unknown theatrical talent.
Noteworthy partnerships include Mind The Gap’s yearlong sponsorship of the Stage Directors & Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) reading series, which showcased up-and-coming New York directors and writers; their 2001 week-long presentation of new British plays as part of British Airways’ sponsored UKwithNY festival; a presentation of a new British play at the 2004 Prelude to Off Broadway festival at CUNY; ongoing performances at the St. George’s Society Arts Initiative alongside Jim Dale; and a featured theatre presentation at the 2006 Wales Week International.
There’s nothing like a dame and Mind The Gap’s got two. Dame Helen Mirren and Dame Judi Dench are on MTG’s Board of Advisors along with Roger Rees.
Mind The Gap isn’t just great British Theatre. We have hosted music and comedy events at the Sun Factory and Harry’s Loft. And Mind The Gap’s Ascot-themed summer benefit (now in its second year) is attracting all sorts of talented Brits. In 2006 Harry’s Loft in Gramercy hosted A NIGHT AT THE RACES featuring Steve Frost of Whose Line is it Anyway? along with a performance by founding members of STOMP. In 2007 Mind The Gap held their second-annual Ascot party at the exclusive Soho House with a performance by Emily Harvey –fresh from the West End’s PHANTOM, and Tony Nominee Gavin Lee (Bert in MARY POPPINS).
Mint The Gap’s monthly reading series From Across The Pond has been going on at the Telephone Bar & Grill since early 2005. In 2007 it moved to the Atlantic Theater Studios in Chelsea.
Their 2006 productions were the NY premiere of Gary Owen’s IN THE PIPELINE at The Manhattan Theatre Source, and the world premiere of Tim Mark’s THE CLERIC at 59E59 Theaters.
In 2007 they instituted their ongoing festival of new short plays – BRITBITS – to sell-out houses, presenting works by writers from both sides of the Atlantic and featuring their in-house Anglo-American Repertory Company of actors.
