A non-profit social service organization, is dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with epilepsy and their families.
Description:
The Epilepsy Institute include counseling, vocational services and job placement, day habilitation, service coordination, information and referral services, educational services, stress management and other services such as financial assistance, summer camps and a weekend socialization program for adults.
All information and in-service training and presentations are free of charge. Other programs are also free of charge or require low cost fees. Not all programs are available at all locations. Fees are based on a sliding scale; Medicaid, Medicare, and some third party insurance is accepted. No one has ever been denied services due to inability to pay.
History:
Since 1967 thousands of people with epilepsy and their families have received information or have benefited from the comprehensive social and educational services offered by The Epilepsy Institute. Staffed with professionals from the medical, social work, vocational counseling and psychological professions, the six metropolitan New York Epilepsy Institute offices and sites - in Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Westchester County - provide a wide variety of services to persons with epilepsy, their families and the community. The Epilepsy Institute, a non-profit agency, is certified by New York State and maintains contractual agreements with New York City, New York State, and Westchester County.
