The Anthropology Museum Of The People Of New York

| Last updated on July 2, 2008 |
Our mission is to someday provide the community with a Museum that has a display on every major ethnic group living in NYC.
Description:
We are a not-for-profit 501 (C)3 chartered by the NY Sate Education Department. We are an all-volunteer organization. Until we were invited by Queens College to establish our museum on campus, we were a traveling museum displaying our exhibits in banks, schools hospitals and libraries. Our exhibits address issues and lifeways of diverse ethnic groups side by side. Our ongoing programs include panel discussions, music, song and dance programs, foreign films, day and overseas trips. We also offer high school students an opportunity to fullfill their community service requirements by volunteering to work at the Museum.
History:
The Museum was founded in 1977 by anthropologists Margaret C. Tellalian-Kyrkostas and Margaret Mead to fill a unique vacancy in the cultural life of our city. At the time there didn't exist a single institution whose principal focus was on the ethnic diversity that so characterizes our city.
