The Genesis Society is a 501(C)3 not-for-profit corporation providing services for members as well as the community at large.
Our programs include the: Cultural Center Tree of Life Yoga and Wellness East-West Center for Interfaith Studies The Genesis Center for Environmental Studies Our mission is to develop a holistic paradigm, one that integrates cultures and peoples by promoting cross-cultural understanding and cooperation.
Description:
MISSION STATEMENT The Arts: To provide a venue for Queens-based artists, singer/songwriters, poets, and writers to present their works in public readings and performances. To record and videotape readings and performances in order to establish an archive of the spiritual and ethnic music of diverse cultures and peoples. INTERFAITH Center for Interfaith Studies - the spiritual evolution of the individual and of the human race through the exploration of religious experience, and a continual process of self-examination leading to a unity of body, mind and spirit. Our programs are both didactic and experiential with the aim of increasing personal awareness and deepening the individual experience of living life intimately.
ENVIRONMENTAL
To educate, to advocate, and to participate in an ongoing environmental program consisting of seminars, discussion groups, special guest speakers, and outdoor reclamation projects throughout the year (e.g., reforesting our parks and neighborhoods; helping to establish neighborhood gardens; joining with national organizations in maintaining trails; protection and maintenance of local habitat).
History:
We have been providing arts, environmental and holistic health education and participation programs in our community for 9 years. during this time we have partnered with many national organizations such as the sierra club, the Audubon society, the Nature Conservancy, the Multiple Sclerosis foundation, UMDNJ (University of of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, the Veterans Administration Hospital, Beth Israel Hospital, the New York Open Center, and Urban Zen.
