City Harvest exists to end hunger in communities throughout New York City. We do this through food rescue and distribution, education and other practical, innovative solutions.

Description:
Founded in 1982, City Harvest is the world's first food rescue organization, dedicated to feeding New York City's hungry men, women and children. This year, City Harvest will collect over 20 million pounds of excess, nutritious food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers and farms. This food is then delivered free of charge to more than 600 community food programs throughout New York City using their fleet of 16 trucks and volunteers on foot. Each week, City Harvest helps over 260,000 hungry New Yorkers find their next meal.

Giving Is Better Than Receiving

I volunteered for the first time in my life this past weekend and the experience was excellent. For most of my life I have been a receiver. I wanted to give back the gift of giving and City Harvest help me do that. I loved it so much I had to blog about it. If you would like to read more about my experience go to monicarivers.wordpress.com

Mind stimulating

The agency I volunteered with exists for a good cause. They do whatever they see possible to provide food for people who can't get it on their own. By volunteering at this organization, I had an increased drive for helping others.
