Our mission is to seek to make the Upper West Side of Manhattan a safe place for everybody who lives, works, and goes to school in the neighborhood.
Description:
We work to achieve our mission and goals through education, advocacy, and collaboration with organizational and individual stakeholders. Specific programs we provide are 1. Resolution is the Solution, a series of anti-violence workshops featuring role-playing, animation and song-writing to engage middle school and high school students in the process and 2. the Safe Haven Program. This program protects our children while on the way to school, walking home, or visiting a friend. A bright yellow Safe Haven decal on the door or window of an Upper West Side business means that the people inside are ready and willing to help a frightened or lost child. 3. ACT - A Community Together which helps individual residents, block associations, tenant groups and others to problem-solve around issues related to crime and safety.
History:
Founded in 1980, WCPP focuses on promoting mutual respect and understanding between police and our community; fostering young people's development through conflict resolution, social and educational programs; directly involving constituencies in crime prevention efforts; and responding to crime in ways that reflect the concerns of our culturally and economically diverse and vibrant neighborhood.
