Girls Quest's mission is to nurture girls from low-income families in New York to help them achieve their full potential and become active members of their communities by building academic and social competence. This is done through outdoor experiential education, year-round mentoring, and leadership training.
Description:
After participating in a recent session of our signature Summer Experiential Education and Development Program (SEED), located at Camp Oh-Neh-Tah, our girls are eligible to participate in our Mentor Program. The Mentor Program provides our teenage girls with year-round support networks during the challenging adolescent years. The Mentor Program pairs girls with a supportive female role-model who provides encouragement and direction to help facilitate healthy overall development. Our girls are matched with professionals who volunteer their services, offering guidance, support, and friendship to girls ages 12 to 17. They meet six to eight hours per month for a minimum of one year.
History:
For 70 years, Girls Quest has provided out-of-school enrichment programming for over 300 disadvantaged girls each year from the greater New York and Catskills regions. Girls ages 8 to 17 participate in a continuum of programming providing year-round experiential education that promotes literacy, ecological awareness, teamwork, peer support and role-modeling, creative expression, problem solving, and leadership.
