InMotion's mission is to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of women low-income, under-served, abused by offering them legal and related services designed to foster equal access to justice and an empowered approach to life.
Description:
Founded in 1993, inMotion (formerly Network for Women's Services) is a New York City-based non-profit organization that provides low-income, under-served or abused women with free, quality legal services.
We fulfill our mission by providing free legal services and intensive social work support, primarily in the areas of matrimonial, family and immigration law, in a way that acknowledges mutual respect, encourages personal growth, and nurtures individual and collective strength. Informed by this work, inMotion promotes policies that make our society more responsive to the legal issues confronting the women we serve.
History:
When inMotion arrived on the scene in 1993, corporate law firms believed that their lawyers could not and should not become involved in matrimonial and family law issues. That perception has been successfully changed by the inMotion program model. inMotion persuaded firms to lend us their legal talent by developing an intensive program of training and supervision. The leveraging of this large, untapped pool of legal professionals - over 4,000 attorneys have been trained by and taken cases referred by inMotion - has produced successful legal outcomes for thousands of women and their children.
