Boys Hope Girls Hope helps academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value-centered, family-like homes, opportunities and education through college.
Description:
Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York is a residential scholarship program for academically capable and motivated children-in-need. Our young people have the promise and drive to succeed, but typically do not come from home environments that are conducive to ensuring their success. We meet all of their developmental needs by providing them with a structured, family-like home, parenting, and a quality education from middle school through college. Since 1991, 100% of our scholars who have graduated high school in our care have gone onto college. We are a privately funded, multi-denominational, non-profit organization striving to expand our community resources. We have two homes for boys in Great Kills, Staten Island, and a home for girls in Brentwood, Long Island.
History:
Boys Hope Girls Hope was founded in 1977 in St. Louis , Missouri by Jesuit Fr. Paul Sheridan, who envisioned a program combining a quality education and a nurturing home environment to benefit children-in-need. The first New York home for boys opened in Staten Island in 1981, and the New York home for girls opened in Long Island in 2000. Boys Hope Girls Hope currently operates 29 homes in 16 U.S cities and 8 throughout Brazil and Guatemala.
