A caring Volunteer is matched with an elderly Citymeals-on-Wheels recipient and the pair arrange for regular visits at least once per week. Our friendly visiting program gives our clients a chance to connect with a warm listener, and provides New Yorkers with a meaningful way to give back to their communities. In most cases, long lasting and mutually rewarding relationships develop.
Description:
We need caring volunteers to reach out to seniors who need extra assistance to live independently in their own homes and communities. Friendly Volunteers is one of the best ways to address the problem of the psychological health and social isolation among our isolated seniors.
History:
Citymeals-on-Wheels seeks to provide a continuous lifeline of nutritious food and human company to homebound elderly New Yorkers in need, thereby helping them to live with dignity in their own familiar homes and communities.
