Established in 1998, The EyeCare Foundation is a world-class resource for eye cancer and macular degeneration patients and their families. Our mission is two-fold; one part focused on macular degeneration and eye cancer research and the other focused on providing patient education and much needed support services.

I was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer 12 years ago. I was a volunteer at Sloan-Kettering for 13 years so I knew the importance of supporting patients and their families. I now had the opportunity through volunteering with the EyeCare Foundation to be a patient to patient volunteer and give back the kindness that was shown to me when I was diagnosed as well as the opportunity to get the word out about a very rare vision threatening and potentially life threatening form of cancer. Through the research supported by the EyeCare Foundation less radical forms of treatment are available and promoting awareness of the disease hopefully will lead to more early diagnoses. The Foundation supports a remarkable group of patients who comfort and educate each other through correspondence on the website and periodic get togethers. Families and friends are also included in the support groups. I could not be more proud of my association with the EyeCare Foundation, posted by MMD on December 7, 2006 |
