Last updated on March 27, 2008

Hudson Guild's mission is to create and sustain a strong, effective community that acknowledges and responds to the potential, achievements and interdependence of its diverse members. Rooted in and primarily focused on the Chelsea neighborhood, we seek to empower all individuals and families to achieve their highest potential, while maintaining a priority focus on those in economic need.

Description:
Hudson Guild has five main program areas: Children and Youth Services, Adult Services, Arts Program, Community Building, and Mental Health Services. These program areas worked together to provide participants with creative programming engaging bodies and minds, connecting them to each other and the Chelsea community.

History:
History

As part of New York’s original settlement house movement, Hudson Guild has always championed the belief that through service we strengthen the fabric of everyday life. That certainly was the case when the Guild served the many waves of immigrants who began arriving in New York City in the late 1800’s.

Founded in 1895 by Dr. John Lovejoy Elliott, Hudson Guild has steadfastly dedicated its energies to serving Manhattan’s Chelsea community. Dr. Elliot was committed to strengthening and building community, both within our walls and in the broader Chelsea neighborhood.

Still today we challenge ourselves and our neighbors to create an environment where we can all achieve our highest potential and live our lives to the fullest. Guild programs and services are still geared toward strengthening families and people with special needs.
