The Father’s Heart Ministries is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization located in the East Village in Manhattan—where countless individuals struggle to make ends meet in the face of an increasingly expensive and gentrified environment. The Father’s Heart Ministries is dedicated to restoring dignity and an improved quality of life to the many immigrant, homeless, and low-income individuals in our community.
Description:
In our efforts to support those in need and to reduce hunger, we run a food pantry and soup kitchen where hundreds of children and adults are fed hot meals on a weekly basis. In addition, we provide free ESL and Parenting classes, job opportunities for neighborhood youth at our ice cream store, and referrals to appropriate social services in hopes of enabling individuals to move towards self-sufficiency.
History:
In 1998, Rev's Chuck and Carol established The Father's Heart Ministry Center in order to support a growing need for services within a community that had undergone widespread drug use and drug sales from the 1960's through the early 80's. According to the 2000 census, 21.3% of families and 22.3% of individuals in the immediate area live below the poverty level-- far higher than the national figures where 9.2% of families and 12.4% of individuals live below the poverty level. Rev's Chuck and Carol and their staff developed a number of programs that aimed to address the needs of the low-income community residents, and assist them in working towards self-sufficiency and independence.

I have volunteered at Father's Heart four times through my alumni association. Their energy is amazing, and I feel lucky to have been a part of their highly organized and caring ministry. posted by annecleader on November 30, 2005 |
