Our mission is to promote sustainable peace and values-based leadership in the United States and throughout the world.
Description:
Inspired by the life and work of Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, our organization advocates for restorative justice. We also support our sister organization, the Desmond Tutu Peace Trust in its capital campaign to build the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre in Cape Town, South Africa. This will be a world-class, multi-media resource for African and global peace movements.
History:
The Foundation was incorporated in 1999. The Founding Honorary Chairs are Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Mpilo Tutu and his wife, Mrs. Leah Tutu. The Honorary Co-Chairs are the Dalai Lama and Oprah Winfrey. Most notably, the hugely successful Emerging Leadership Program has been run in the United States, Africa, Europe and Australia. Recent restructuring includes the appointment of Executive Director, Donna Blackwell who has held senior positions at the US Fund for UNICEF and two Fortune 50 companies, as well as creating and leading a management consulting business. Among others, she is also a member of the National Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of the USA.
