The 1City Youth Project was established to provide free programs, activities and services to inner-city youth. One of the most innovative not-for-profit youth service agencies in the City, 1City has a long-standing commitment to work with youth at-risk, providing quality educational and social programs that help youth recognize their potential and build on their strengths.

Description and/or History:
1City provides an array of free athletic, artistic and service programs for youth in grades 4 to 12 from September to June. Program offerings also include tutoring and test preparation; job readiness skills; career awareness, counseling and college preparation. Current clubs include: basketball, flag football, cheerleading, step team, dance, fashion club, vocal instruction, and business club. By integrating character building and academics into a structured, yet fun learning environment, 1City is successfully able to serve 100 youth annually, keeping them off of the streets during critical out-of-school time hours.
The concept for 1City began in 1986 when it's current Director was a junior in high school. Formed to provide a network of support for former high school gang members and "misfits", the program soon grew to include elementary school children and expanded to include a correspondence program in different parts of the nation and the world. The program is run solely on the love and commitment of volunteers who desire to give back into the community by sowing into the lives of its youth. The program became legally incorporated as The Brothers And Sisters Combined Uniternity, Incorporated in 1990 and legally changed its name to The 1City Youth Project in 2005. Now celebrating its 16th year, 1City is pleased to have served more than 3000 young people with little funding.
