Gina Gibney Dance Company is a creative force that serves both the dance and social service communities. Critics and audiences in the U.S. and abroad have praised the company's performances, residencies and choreographic repertory.
Our mission:
To create and perform humanistic choreography that draws upon and conveys women's unique qualities in thought-provoking ways.
To enrich and reshape lives by establishing innovative community partnerships. These initiatives--known as at Work programs--share the transforming power of movement and creativity with others.
Description:
Gina Gibney's choreography has been widely presented and commissioned in the United States and abroad.
Gibney is a recognized leader in combining the arts with community initiatives. Most recently, she has developed and implemented two community-based projects for the company: Women at Work, reaches into the community with the transforming power of dance and creativity, and Artists at Work strengthens working relationships, supports the creation of new work, and forms new lines of advocacy within dance communities.
History:
Founded in 1991, Gina Gibney Dance was reconceived in 1997 to address the unrecognized fact that female professional dancers were losing artistic and financial ground, and to develop innovative ways to extend dance's reach beyond its traditional office.
