The organization would serve as an umbrella group of all Ghanaian organizations in the Tri-state area.
To promote the rich and diverse Ghanaian indigenous cultures and traditions.
To seek the general welfare and interests of Ghanaian residents in the tri-state area.

Description:
The National Council of Ghanaian Associations is an umbrella organization presently comprised of fourteen Ghanaian groups representing the different ethnic, cultural, civic and religious groups in the New York City area.
It was founded twenty years ago as a unified body to promote the interests of Ghanaians and seek their general welfare in the United States.
Some of the services provided include free SAT classes, a scholarship fund for Ghanaian children in high school, as well as cultural programs throughout the year to showcase Ghana's rich and diverse culture.
We also provide assistance to various institutions in Ghana such as providing books for schools, as well medicine for hopsitals.
We have organized several fundraisers in aid of orphanages dedicated to children whose parents have died of AIDS, and have sent literature as well as materials to groups and organizations working those children.

History:
The organization was founded in 1986 to promote and unify Ghanaians living in the tristate srea. At that time, there were only a handful of groups and most were ethnic based organizations.
To celebrate Ghana's Independence Day in 1986,a group of Ghanaians came together and decided to hold one unified celebration instead of all the small groups having their own celebrations.
Out of that unified celebration arose the discourse and the subsequent formation of the NCOGA to serve as the unifying voice of Ghanaians.
