Mision: Upwardly Global's mission is to help U.S. employers benefit from the hidden talent pool that exists amongst immigrant professionals, and to equip these under-employed individuals with the skills and resources necessary to rebuild their careers in the U.S. Vision: One day, foreign-born professionals will be seamlessly integrated in the US workforce in a way that optimizes their skills as U.S. companies actively seek to harness the full potential of immigrant professionals' contributions.
Description:
Upwardly Global provides targeted and customized education to “employers” and “immigrants”, training on interviewing and job search tools and skills, and a network that integrates native-born and foreign-born professionals. The result is increased access to economic opportunities for immigrants and individual and group empowerment that strengthens American society as a whole. Upwardly Global’s two primary programs are the Jobseeker Services program and the Employer Network. In the second, there I clear potential of achievable funds represented in Partnerships and money. The Jobseeker Services program is a range of career and network services including, a series of five job search tools and skills workshops, career counseling and coaching, advising/mentoring from American professional peers in the same field, an online network database and resources, and a growing Alumni Network of immigrant professionals who support one another. The Employer Network program educates Fortune 1000 companies on how to effectively recruit, interview, and integrate immigrant professionals into their workforces. Corporate employees learn new tools and techniques for immigrant inclusion through its seminars, volunteer program and online training. Upwardly Global has educated over 1,000 employer representatives on immigrant inclusive hiring practices.
History:
Upwardly Global is a 501C3 nonprofit organization founded by Ashoka Fellow, Jane Leu in 2000. “Upwardly Global was inspired by Leu's work in refugee resettlement where she saw newly arrived refugees being funneled into low-wage, low-skilled jobs, despite their university educations and years of professional experience. Jane strongly believes that with the coming skilled labor shortage in the US, companies will benefit from tapping the diverse, motivated, and well-qualified talent pool of immigrant professionals. She is committed to helping companies gain greater comfort with hiring candidates with foreign degrees and experience, while simultaneously helping immigrants overcome barriers and rise to their full career and leadership potential in the US.” Upwardly Global has developed the potential to directly impact 5500 immigrant professionals, 200 Fortune 1000 companies, 4,000 American professionals and create a $54M-$63M total increase in immigrant earning power by 2008.

Overall Experience

I feel like you being to able to give rather than taking is the most amazing experience there could be. I enjoy giving to those who are in need and so does my family, we travel to my country every year to offer children and families who don't have money to celebrate Christmas wonderful Christmas eve with the community of that particular area. You should see their faces is amazing to see the joy of their faces,it feel so much better to give a person a day of happiness than you thinking of going to spa and making yourself happy is more rewarding and it feels amazing. posted on June 25, 2008 |
