As the largest food bank in the country, the Food Bank provides 61 million pounds of food annually to more than 1,000 community food programs citywide - enough food to help provide more than 200,000 meals served to individuals and families seeking emergency food assistance each day by nonprofit community food programs. To date, we have collected, warehoused, and distributed more than 500 million pounds of food.

Description:
In 2003, the Food Bank For New York City recognizes 20 years of working to end hunger in New York City by organizing food, information and support for community survival and dignity. As the city's largest hunger-relief organization, the Food Bank collects, warehouses and distributes food throughout the five boroughs. The Food Bank also offers ongoing support to food programs through nutrition and food safety education workshops, networking sessions and other tools that build capacity and improve efficiency. As a resource center for our member agencies, legislators, the media and the public, the Food Bank regularly conducts research about hunger in New York City and plays an active role in public policy issues at the city, state and national levels.

Excellent, I am the Food Coordinator with a food pantry in Jamaica, Queens

We distribute food to the Jamaica, Queens community three to four times a week with the help of donations from the Food Bank of NYC and City Harvest. I am the Food Coordinator and I enjoy volunteering yearly with the Food pantry. We are open all year around trying to feed the community. We love it and I just want you know that the Food Bank of NYC has helped us tremendously and we are eternally grateful.
