ACE Integration Head Start, in Bushwick, Brooklyn, provides high quality, bilingual early childhood education and social service programs for community children of all abilities and their families. We seek to be an agent of change for community members, encouraging families to lead self-reliant and productive lives.

Description:
A.C.E. Integration Head Start is an early childhood education program for low-income children ages 3-4 in Bushwick, Brooklyn. ACE is an acronym for acceptance of self and other, creativity, and ecology. The program is based on the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy, a child-centered approach, and integrates children with disabilities into a classroom with their peers who do not have disabilities. There are 130 students in the school. The idea behind the federally funded Head Start program is to promote school readiness for children by enhancing their cognitive and social development while providing social services to their families. ACE designed a child-centered, supportive and stimulating program for children with and without disabilities. The social services at Head Start distinguish the program from many other educational organizations.

History:
Since it's inception in 1965, Head Start has recognized the importance of nurturing the self-esteem of each child and family in the program. Head Start sevices are family centered. Studies have shown that children who attend Head Start do better in grade school than children who do not.
