Mission Statement
To provide quality services and programs that seek to promote positive self-esteem, self-reliance and self-sufficiency in those children and families who entrust their lives into our care. We endeavor to support and enhance the strengths of Individuals to face their problems and to recognize their strengths as our Greatest Resources.

Description:
The Miracle Makers, Inc. (“MMI”) is a minority-run agency located in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York, and has consistently provided quality services to the community, children and their families for over thirty years in the various neighborhoods of Bedford-Stuyvesant, East New York, Brownsville, Bushwick, and Coney Island. MMI provides these services through its Educational Programs (6 child care centers and one full day head start program that offers quality child care and Head Start services to children between the ages of 2 and 5 years), and its Scattered Site Housing Program (SSHP) I & II, which provides services to people with HIV and AIDS, and whose clients are referred by the NYC Human Resources Administration's HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA). The goal of SSHP I is to reduce homelessness among persons with AIDS (PWAs) in NYC by providing adequate housing and appropriate support services in Brooklyn to single PWAs and families in which at least one member is a PWA. The SSHP II assist clients who are housed in transitional SROs and hotels in finding and leasing private apartments located throughout the five boroughs in their own name.

History:
The Freewill Day Care Association, which subsequently became The Miracle Makers, Inc. ("MMI") was founded in 1972 as a result of a joint effort between the Freewill Church and Jefferson Avenue Block Association to address the needs of working parents who lacked adequate resources for quality childcare with a mission to: "Help Children, Save Families, and Strengthen Communities." Over three decades, MMI has provided a range of services that address the myriad of problems threatening the stability and welfare of children and families. The Agency’s range of services expanded to include, at various times, child welfare and supportive housing services, as well as programs for people with mental retardation, developmental disabilities, HIV/AIDS and substance abuse. In 2000, the agency’s services were expanded to include medical and mental health services, preventive services and enhanced after school educational programming for the families we served. The agency now primarily focuses on providing quality ACS-funded child care to the communities of Central Brooklyn and Coney Island. Currently, MMI is known throughout Central Brooklyn, New York City and the State of New York as a multifaceted non-profit human services agency that continues to provide quality services and reaches over 800 clients daily while being responsive to the ever-changing needs of its community. In the coming years, as in the past, MMI will be guided by the philosophy that effective social services cannot be imposed from the outside, but must grow from within the community itself. The majority of MMI's funding is provided by government agencies. The Agency is governed by six board members who bring a diverse range of experience in human services under the present leadership of Leonard W. Stewart, Interim ED/CEO.
