The mission of America SCORES New York is to empower students in urban communities using soccer, writing, creative expression, and service-learning. With teamwork as the unifying value, America SCORES New York inspires youth to lead healthy lifestyles, be engaged students, and become agents of change in their communities. To accomplish this, we are currently working with 220 public school students and 32 public school teachers in Central Harlem and Washington Heights.
Description:
America SCORES New York offers one of the most unusual and successful approaches to youth development and literacy training for at-risk students: poetry writing-soccer teams. By learning creative writing and soccer in tandem, teams of students, ages eight to twelve, encourage and inspire one another to achieve on the field, in the classroom and in the community. America SCORES New York provides a seamless flow of academic, social, physical and emotional development that gives our students the foundation to succeed throughout the school day and beyond. America SCORES New York serves 220 children through our five day a week after-school program and 18 children through our year-round Club Team.
History:
America SCORES New York is entering its 8th year of existence and is continually searching to expand and providing our kids fun through soccer and writing. We have 14 affiliates throughout the country.
