Girl Scout Council Of Greater New York
Powered by Truist
Last updated on January 29, 2008

The Girl Scout Council of Greater New York is a voluntary organization, which offers the Girl Scout Program to all girls in the five boroughs of New York City.

Description:
The goal of the Girl Scout program is to help girls grow into capable and responsible women, who respect themselves and others as well as inspiring girls to strive for the highest character ideals, conduct, patriotism, and service that they may become happy and resourceful citizens.

History:
The Girl Scouts of America, was founded in Savannah, Georgia by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912.

By 1913, the first New York troop started in Manhattan. A year later, Girl Scouting began in Staten Island. Queens, the Bronx and Brooklyn followed in the next few years. In 1917, Brooklyn started the first troop for girls with disabilities

By the 1920's, troops started in Chinatown and Harlem.

On February 1, 1941, the five boroughs merged to form the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York.
Over the decades, the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York has provided programs and services to address the needs of girls, ages 5 through 17, from all five boroughs, by maintaining our fundamental principles to build character, conduct and community service - core qualities of Girl Scouting - as we evolve to meet the challenges faced by today's girls.

An experience well loved and appreciated

Girl Scout of Greater N.Y. I have worked as a leader for girls 11-17 yrs old and it has been great. I have enjoyed working with my girls and watching them grow up to become responsible, caring young ladies. I hope that I can help develope a new generation of young women that believe nothings is impossible and they are in charge of their own destiny. I want to be the one positive voice in their heads telling them to shoot fo rthe stars..the sky is not the limit.
