The mission of Plays for Living is to use “theatre as a catalyst for change”. We produce drama to spark dialogue and communication on challenging issues while encouraging cultural awareness. Through interactive theatre and guided discussions, we provide a unique and effective platform to explore challenging issues in the greater community of the educational system, workplace and personal lives.
Description:
We create and produce original dramas, scenarios, monologues and improvisations that are performed on site for corporations, schools, government and not- for-profit agencies. This gives dramatic voice to contemporary issues each of us face at work, at home and in our communities. Performances are followed by interactive discussions and team exercises that encourage the audience to explore resolutions to the portrayed conflict.
History:
Plays for Living began in 1942 under the leadership of Vera Allen, Ethel Barrymore Colt, Katherine Cornell and Cornelia Otis Skinner as a project of the American Theatre Wing's war effort. After WWII the organization broadened its interests to encompass many facets of family and community life. Plays for Living has performed at thousands of organizations of all types and continues to serve communities through drama.
