Miracle House is New York City's hospitality house, providing affordable lodging, meals and volunteer advocacy support to out of town patients of serious illnesses and their caregivers. People come to New York from all over the country and aboard seeking medical treatment, a certain specialist, or experimental procedures for their serious illnesses. Often they come seeking hope for the health challenges facing them. Miracle House provides them with a safe haven during their stay in our city. Volunteers greet every newcomer, they host breakfasts and dinners, and train to be client advocates to our guests.

Description:
Volunteers assist in all program services to our visitors acting as welcoming hosts, meal hosts and friendly supporters. Volunteers also participate in all our fundraising projects including auctions, benefits, and major events in Manhattan, East Hampton and Fire Island.

History:
History: In 1990, during the height of the AIDS epidemic among gay men, three friends met and discussed a common goal. They wanted to provide those struggling with AIDS the dignity and compassion needed to face this devastating disease. Driven by this commitment they did what no one else had thought to do: they created affordable and supportive housing for families and friends traveling to New York City to care for a loved one with AIDS. They created Miracle House.

In the mid to late 90's, new drug therapies radically improved the health of people affected by HIV/AIDS and reduced the medical crisis among them.

In 1997, Miracle House expanded its' mission to include caregivers of people with Cancer and made a seamless transition to caring for this new population, while preserving the original commitment to people living with AIDS. Currently we have now expanded all our programs for people with any serious illness.

Over the last 14 years, Miracle House has served over 3,300 individuals from around the world. While Miracle House preserves its founding commitment to the families of people living with AIDS, the expansion has been an opportunity for us to build on years of successful service.
