The Queens Community House is a diverse, multi-service organization offering a variety of services to individuals and families throughout Queens. Our program participants include children, teens, adults and the elderly.
Description:
The Queens Community House (formerly Forest Hills Community House) is a settlement house founded in 1975 to assist, strengthen, and help improve the quality of life of individuals, families, and communities. Today, our 17 program areas reach over 20,000 people throughout Queens. Our 18 sites serve as centers for community gathering, organizing, and social service activity, and our activities work to promote inter-generational and cross-cultural cooperation and exchange. The Queens Community House also works with other organizations in networks and coalitions to advocate for and provide services borough-wide. Our programs include an early childhood center; after school, teen leadership, and youth development centers; ESOL and job preparation; housing assistance and homelessness prevention; meals-on-wheels, adult day care and case management; and 4 senior centers.
History:
In the spring of 1975, the Queens Community House opened its doors with three staff members. From the beginning, our mission included bringing together the economically, ethnically and racially diverse residents of our community. The center was to be a place where all residents could come together to enhance the capacity of the neighbors to help each other. Today, The Queens Community House has over 400 full and part-time staff, runs 38 programs on 18 sites, and serves over 20,000 people a year.
