Based in Manhattan’s Chinatown / Lower East Side, the Chinese Progressive Association's mission is to gain social and economic justice for Chinese Americans. We provide educational, advocacy, and service programs that raise the community's living and working standards. We involve community residents in the decision making processes that affect their lives. We bring together people from diverse backgrounds and walks of life to reach our goals.
Description:
Our current programs include English as a Second Language and Civics education; immigrant rights education, advocacy and services; Starting Line Youth Peer Mentoring Program, the Chinatown Environmental Health & Justice Project, new voter registration and education, counseling and referrals
History:
The Chinese Progressive Association was founded by a group of community residents and activists as an organization that could bring together community members of diverse backgrounds to serve the people. Through our program, services, and advocacy, we have addressed a wide array of issues such as: immigrant rights, environmental justice, affordable housing and community development, workers' rights, youth leadership development, and political empowerment
