Our mission is to provide mentors to children who need a caring adult role in their lives - a special friend who can help to expand their horizons and enrich their futures.
Description:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City is a mentoring agency which matches children from all boroughs ages 7 to 17 with adult mentors 21 years or older, to spend 4 consecutive hours every other week for a minimum 1 year commitment. (Note: Limited opportunities do exist for prospective volunteers who are 18 years and older as well.) The matches engage in fun, recreational activities that are first approved by parent or legal guardian.
History:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City began the mentoring movement when it was first founded in 1904. Nationwide chapters now number approximately 500. We do not discriminate based on race, creed, culture and/or sexual orientation. We are non-profit, non-denominational and non-sectarian.
