Children's PressLine is a media organization that trains kids (aged 8-18) to be journalists that advocate for children around the world. CPL is printed in the "Amsterdam News" and distributed by Scripps Howard News Service to 400 newspapers nationwide. CPL also produces TV segments ("Kids News") on issues that affect kids.
Description:
Our members use a professional system of oral journalism to report and edit news stories for major broadcast and print media news outlets. What sets CPL apart from other youth journalism organizations is that our stories are meant for adult audiences as well as for kids. To this end, CPL serves as a window into the hearts and minds of the under-heard and under-served youth community.
History:
Children's Pressline is heir to a 26 year old tradition of integrating the youth perspective into the mainstream media. CPL is a spin-off of Children's Express, which was the only kids' news organization to win Emmy and Peabody Awards. For over two decades young people worldwide have responded to our leadership challenge and utilized a tremendously rewarding opportunity to speak in their words. What has continually resulted from these efforts is an unquestionably authentic, graceful, and mature approach to the search for truth.
