Our mission at Rivington House is to create a caring environment for persons with AIDS - where all are respected for their unique humanness and empowered to treat themselves and others with kindness, respect and dignity.
Description:
Rivington House is a 206 bed long term care facility for people with AIDS. We provide services that are interactive and holistic in nature, integrating traditional and alternative therapies to support the individual living with AIDS.
History:
Financed mostly with state bonds, Rivington House is a remarkable transformation from a dilapidated 1898 grammar school to a striking state of the art health care facility for people with AIDS.

Overall Experience
Rivinton House makes volunteering fun.

Rivington House offers a variety of volunteer opportunities through New York Cares. I set aside one weekend a month so I can serve popcorn and hang out at "Movie Night." Then I return the next morning to talk about the flick and play "Scrabble" at the Sunday Social." Since I began volunteering at Rivington House, in 2005, I have aquired an appreciation for playing "Bingo" as well as for the patients and staff of this wonderful facility. posted by Julia Masi on August 22, 2006 |

I volunteer thru NYCares. I have volunteered at Rivington House for over 4 years now. I have team lead the fun and games project for nearly 4 years now. I feel that I have grown as a person thru volunteering. Every day is a new experience. I never know what to expect. A person that volunteers is a special person. When you do find the right project for yourself you know it. Not every project is for every person. Keep trying until you find the right project that suits yourself. posted by bessi1013 on December 9, 2004 |
