Ariva was created to promote individual wealth building and economic development in underserved communities by providing financial literacy training and improving access to financial services.
Description:
Founded in the fall of 2002, Ariva is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting individual wealth and economic development in low-to-moderate income communities by providing financial education and improving access to financial services. We do this by providing three distinct programs: financial literacy education and training, research in financial services needs of economically troubled communities, and raising public awareness around the shortage of financial services in these neighborhoods, beginning in the South Bronx.
History:
Observing the lack of banking institutions, the founders became aware of the limited access to basic banking services, such as deposit accounts and loans, in the South Bronx. Without these financial tools, these individuals are denied a fair opportunity to achieve financial stability and growth. Heavy reliance on check cashers and predatory lenders limits financial opportunities, perpetuating poor education, underemployment, and economic hardship. Through these observations, we saw an urgent need for financial education and public awareness of the alternatives to predatory financial services in underserved communities.
