United Neighbors of East Midtown

United Neighbors of East Midtown (UNEM) serves seniors
(60 years and older)living in the mid-east section of Manhattan. We provide an array of case management services for seniors and place volunteers as friendly visitors, shopping/medical escorts, and will be starting a telephone reassurance program for the clients within our community.

Description and/or History:
United Neighbors of East Midtown is a private non-for-profit agency. UNEM began services in 1985. It is dedicated to helping older people maintain independent lives in the community. For some men and women, we are the only caring people they can depend on and trust.

UNEM's professional staff provides vital services to those 60 and older who live between 14th and 59th Streets and from Fifth Avenue to the East River. Over the years, UNEM has extended its catchment area south to East 14th Street. In 2001, UNEM, in cooperation with the churches and synagogues of the area, established a formal volunteer program serving all seniors in the community. Today over 17 volunteers are actively matched with seniors who benefit from their non-professional care giving. Our goal is to recruit additional volunteers to ensure that all seniors who need services receive them.
