St. John's Bread and Life Mission Statement Inspired by the spirit of St. Vincent De Paul,St. John's Bread and Life affords itself this mission:to bring food to the poor and accompany them on their journey to wholeness by providing necessary services. We advocate for them, always mindful of the words of St. Vincent: "To serve others as we would serve Christ".
Description:
St. John's Bread and Life seeks to address the issues of hunger and poverty in Brooklyn. Our goal is to combat and help people achieve self-sufficiency as well as to educate the public and increase awareness about needy New Yorkers and how our soup kitchens and food pantries make a difference. But our mission does not stop there. We seek to assist lower income individuals and families through a variety of other social services, including life skills counseling, financial counseling, support groups , as well as legal and medical clinics.
History:
St. John's Bread and Life Program, Inc. (SJBL) was founded by the Vincentian Community and members of the Daughters of Charity in 1982 and serves Brooklyn's poor.
