 Canarsie Pier was built in 1926 to promote the industrial development of Jamaica Bay. This historic pier offers one of the best fishing spots on Jamaica Bay. Built in an area that once hosted an amusement park, today the pier provides a children's playground and family picnic area. Volunteer opportunities include patrolling of picnic area, maintaining the pier clean, maintenance of Ranger Station, answering telephones OR performing guided tours to the public. You will be allowed to perform more than one work duty, if desired.
Volunteer must have good people skills. Knowledge of the History of Canarsie Pier will be helpful. PLEASE NOTE THAT LODGING WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE. This opportunity is sponsored by: Department of Interior, Gateway National Recreation Area
