NYC is full of stories of people turning their good intentions into action to make the world a better place… and Idealist.org would like you to help us tell them. So, what do we want? We want an audio story / podcast from a New Yorker like you: someone who knows a community well (or wants to get to know it better). Tell us about something good happening in the city: a narrative about your neighbor who is doing innovative community work, an interview with an interesting leader of a nonprofit, sound bytes from people around your borough who have something provocative to say about social change, a personal account of your volunteering experience, etc…Anything you want. We’re leaving the topic, content and format up to you. Our goal is to have your story posted on the Idealist.org website by the end of the summer (we’ll work with you to set individual deadlines). Check out our podcasts at http://www.idealist.org/podcast Stories should be no longer 14 minutes in length. Keep in mind that our favorite stories will: • Contains some elements of humor • Be compelling, whether emotionally or is driven by a good plot • Feature interesting characters • Dig deep into the topic at hand • Be of high audio quality What we DON’T want is advertisements for a company, organization or product. We also will not consider stories that promote violent or illegal action, or any action against a person or group on the basis of race, origin, nationality, religion, language, gender, sexual orientation, or physical or mental ability. Finally, we reserve the right to not post your story should we find the finished product to be misaligned with our podcast guidelines. If video is your thing, we’re also open to that too. How will we support you? Our team will work with you along the way, and assist you in anything you need from interviewing tips to audio editing. You’ll be able to reach us online, or come in for some real world support. We will also have a small lending library, where you can come to borrow recorders (if necessary) and resources on podcasting. What do you get out of it? • An opportunity to help good ideas travel, and inspire people to take action in their communities. • The chance to hone your media skills • Exposure of your work on Idealist.org (Idealist.org has an average of 60,000 visits per day)
How to Apply: Send an email to douglas@idealist.org by Wednesday, July 2 with:
