Rape Crisis Program Needs Women Volunteers
Powered by Truist
Last updated on August 11, 2008

St. Vincent's Hospital Rape Crisis Program is looking for women interested in becoming on-call volunteer advocates. Advocates provide information and support to sexual assault survivors in the emergency rooms of St. Vincent's Hospital and NY Downtown Hospital.

To become an advocate, applicants must complete all registration forms, have an in-person interview with a staff member, and attend a 40-hour training which begins October 18th and runs all-day Saturdays and Wednesday evenings for 5 weeks.

Applicants should be 21 or older, live in or close to lower Manhattan and be able to reach the St. Vincent's ER (7th Ave & 12th St) in 20 minutes. Volunteers must attend all of the training sessions, get medical clearance (through Personnel Health or your own health care provider) and attend volunteer meetings throughout the year.

Upon completion of the training, advocates must make a one-year commitment to the program. Advocates will cover 2-3 on-call shifts each month (we may ask for more over the summer). Shifts are weekday evenings, 7pm - 8am, and day & evening shifts on weekends and holidays.

For more information and to receive application forms, please email us at rcp@svcmcny.org or call 212-604-8068.
